The World Internet Conference (WIC) convened a meeting in Beijing on March 25 to discuss the plan for soliciting cross-border e-commerce practice cases in 2026.

Leading experts, scholars and representatives from cross-border e-commerce businesses had in-depth discussions on the proposed case collection framework.

The research team introduced the background, design approach and classification scheme of the case collection.

Based on an analysis of the latest industry trends, the case collection is planned to focus on themes such as government-coordinated promotion, market entity development, emerging digital technology empowerment, supporting service system construction, and international cooperation, driven by next-generation information technologies such as artificial intelligence, and emphasizing a global perspective, including typical cases such as localized operations, cross-border industrial chain synergy, and regional ecosystem co-development, covering all links in the cross-border e-commerce industrial chain.

In the discussion session, experts offered detailed feedback to refine the framework, including Wang Jinzhen, former vice chairman of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and chief chair of the WIC Specialized Committee on E-Commerce and Xue Hong, chair of the WIC Specialized Committee on E-Commerce, professor of Beijing Normal University and an advisory member of the UN Asia-Pacific Expert Network on Paperless Trade.

Other participating experts included Wang Xi, vice-chairwoman of the CCPIT’s Commercial Sub-Council; Wang Jian, director of the International Business Research Center at the University of International Business and Economics, director of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Electronic Commerce Business Alliance Expert Committee; Lin Wanti, director of the eWTP Policy Research Center; Frank Yu, head of Marketing and Operations at JD Cross-border and Zhang Xinbo, general manager of the Public Policy Department at Xiaohongshu.

A WIC representative said that the drafting team would sort through and incorporate their suggestions to optimize the collection plan, and continue to advance the collection, research, selection, and case drafting. The team will promote representative, effective, and innovative practices and experiences, and ensure that the best practices in cross-border e-commerce development benefit the world. The report is scheduled for official release at the 2026 WIC Wuzhen Summit.
