2025 World Internet Conference Distinguished Contribution Award
Social Contribution award-winning enterprise: Lenovo
Founded in 1984, Lenovo operates in more than 180 countries and regions worldwide. Each year, the company delivers hundreds of millions of intelligent devices to users and provides infrastructure and services to enterprise customers — positioning itself as both an enabler and a leader in digital and intelligent transformation.
As the world's leading PC manufacturer by market share and the third-biggest global provider of servers and storage, Lenovo continues to increase its investment in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and 5G.
By leveraging digital technologies, the company supports intelligent transformation and contributes to the development of a more inclusive, trustworthy and sustainable digital society.
In green supply chain management, Lenovo ranks eighth in Gartner's Supply Chain Top 25, the highest position among Chinese technology companies. The Tianjin Lenovo Innovation Technology Park in Tianjin, North China, has been certified as an “eco-level zero-carbon factory” — while Lenovo's manufacturing facilities in Brazil, Hungary, Mexico and other countries have achieved various levels of certification from the Responsible Business Alliance.
In environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, Lenovo is recognized among the global top tier of enterprises and has received MSCI's highest ESG rating, AAA, for multiple consecutive years.
In 2025, Lenovo was awarded the Best Digital Transformation Case at the Sino-European Corporate ESG Best Practice Conference. This was in recognition of its experience in intelligent manufacturing, low-carbon transformation and digital operations.
The company was also listed on the Fortune China ESG Impact List for the fourth consecutive year and ranked first in overall corporate scores in the 2025 China Corporate Social Responsibility Rankings announced by Southern Weekly.
Lenovo has committed itself to achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by fiscal year 2050 and has received validation from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), becoming the first PC and smartphone manufacturer globally to obtain this certification.
Moreover, the group continues to incorporate recycled plastics, ocean-bound plastics and recycled metals into its products, promoting material circularity and reducing reliance on natural resource extraction.
As a result of these efforts, Lenovo has received multiple international sustainability recognitions, including an A-level “Leadership” rating for climate change from the Centre for Environmental Information Research. It has received EcoVadis' highest Platinum Medal for sustainability performance, CDP's Climate Change Leadership A rating and the Gold Award for Best Sustainable Company/Organization from the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
In the area of AI governance, Lenovo adheres to the principle of human-centered intelligence and strengthens responsible corporate governance.
Following the launch of the world's first AI-powered PC, it co-initiated a human-centered intelligence development and governance initiative together with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Siemens, the Ant Group and other partners. To date, 31 leading enterprises and institutions have joined the initiative.
Lenovo also actively participates in global AI governance efforts and has joined multiple international initiatives, including UNESCO's ethical and responsible AI framework.
Through volunteer programs, training initiatives and philanthropic projects, Lenovo's charitable teams are expected to directly impact 15 million people and improve the lives of one million individuals by the end of fiscal year 2025/26.
In addition, Lenovo advances ICT technology transfer and industrial innovation through public-interest donations and university–industry collaborations — working closely with Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, among others.
In 2024, the World Internet Conference established the WIC Distinguished Contribution Award to recognize individuals and enterprises that have made outstanding contributions in global internet-related fields.
To date, 12 leading figures and 26 well-known business enterprises from around the world have received the award.
For enterprises, the award features three categories — Social Contribution, Innovation Breakthrough, and Growth Potential.
The awarded companies span a wide range of sectors — including internet platforms, mobile communications, artificial intelligence, chip designs, energy and power and cybersecurity.
Together, they depict a diverse and thriving internet ecosystem, encouraging more outstanding enterprises to engage in the development of the internet and to jointly explore the limitless possibilities of the digital future.
The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
