The Digital Government and Smart Life sub-forum of the 2025 World Internet Conference (WIC) Asia-Pacific Summit was held in Hong Kong on April 15.
Under the theme "Empowering Good Governance with Digital Intelligence, Co-creating a Brighter Smart Life," keynote speeches were delivered by Ren Xianliang, secretary-general of the WIC; Nahima Janett Díaz Flores, general director of the Nicaraguan Institute of Telecommunications and Postal Services; Paula Piveni Piukala, minister for ministry of Public Enterprises of Tonga; Eugenia Villar, deputy minister of ministry of Industry, Energy, and Mining of Uruguay; Suleiman Hassan Serelela, ministry of Industry and Trade of The United Republic of Tanzania; Donald Mak, deputy commissioner for Digital Policy (Data Governance) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of People’s Republic of China; and Shi Xiaoping, director and CEO of China Mobile Hong Kong Co.Ltd. Speakers explored strategies for enhancing governance capabilities amid digital and intelligent transformation.
On the topic of "Digital-Real Integration for a Smarter Life," insights were shared by Zhang Lianye, chairman of the Board and Director-General of Shaanxi Radio and Television Converged Media Group (TV Station); Loo Kar Pui Paul, Lalamove chief operating officer; Zhao Hejuan, founder, chairperson and CEO of TMTPOST Group and publisher of Barron's China; Quan Xiaowen, chairman of WebRAY Tech Group; Steven Choi, general manager of Tencent Cloud Hong Kong and Macao; and Annie Wang, general manager of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Hong Kong. Speakers offered industry perspectives on the development of a vibrant digital ecosystem to optimize smart life.
As a result of the WIC Think Tank Cooperation Program, two reports were officially released at the forum: "Innovative Applications of AI in the Residential Sector" by BEKE BrainLink and "Educational Transformation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Integrating Generative AI and Human Intelligence to Enhance Educational Quality" by the Macao Association for Internet Research.
A panel discussion on "Holistic Synergy in Digital Society Development" brought together leading experts, scholars, and industry pioneers from the fields of artificial intelligence and smart governance.
The forum was hosted by the WIC, attracting over 100 participants from government departments, international organizations, enterprises, universities, and research institutions from around the world.
The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
