The World Internet Conference (WIC) has held a briefing in Beijing for its two flagship initiatives, namely the Practice Cases of Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace (Practice Cases) and the World Internet Conference Awards for Pioneering Science and Technology (WIC Awards), on March 25. With link-ups to Chengdu and Shenzhen, the event brought together more than 400 representatives from embassies, government agencies, international organizations, enterprises, universities, and think tanks, both in person and online.

The WIC Secretariat provided a comprehensive overview of the 2025 Practice Cases and WIC Awards at the event, explaining the submission process, selection criteria, and major benefits with examples.
The session also included presentations of past winners to help attendees get a better understanding of the submission requirements. In the Practice Cases section, representatives from the National Earth Observation Data Center of AIRCAS, Tencent Sustainable Social Value, and the South School on Internet Governance shared their insights into submitting cases. They highlighted the importance of alignment with core principles, international collaboration, and inclusive values in project submission, while describing expanded promotional reach and global recognition after their projects were selected as Outstanding Cases.

The WIC Awards section featured a roundtable discussion among representatives from ARM, China Mobile, Baidu, and Beijing Jiaotong University, who shared their experiences in submitting projects in basic research, key technology, and engineering research and development. Their discussion offered practical advice for businesses, higher education institutions, and research organizations worldwide on project selection, material preparation, and resource coordination in the submission process.

A Q&A session was also held, where the WIC Secretariat responded to questions raised by attendees both in-person and online.
A WIC representative emphasized that these initiatives serve as platforms for fostering international cooperation in cyberspace and driving global innovation in internet science and technology. The WIC looks forward to receiving more practice cases that showcase international collaboration and inclusiveness, as well as pioneering scientific and technological achievements that are highly innovative and pose huge application potential, according to the representative.
Submissions for the 2025 Practice Cases and WIC Awards are now open, and will end at 24:00 on June 18. Another briefing will be held on April 14 during the WIC Asia-Pacific Summit in Hong Kong, and the WIC will keep the interested organizations updated.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
