Lu Haina

Member, UN Working Group on Discrimination against Women and Girls

Professor at the Renmin University of China Law School

Professor Lu Haina was appointed by the President of the 54th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in October 2023 as member of the UN Working Group on discrimination against women and girls under the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council. She is currently the only Chinese national among the 83 independent experts in the Special Procedures and only the second Chinese expert successfully elected since the mechanism was established in 1967.

In 2021, she published the monograph Big Data, AI and Women’s Rights to Work, the first book in China to examine artificial intelligence from the perspectives of gender and law. The book was selected as one of the Top 10 “Rose Bookshelf” Recommendations for Female Workers by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions in 2024. She has also contributed to the formulation of the China National Program for Women’s Development (2021–2030) and the China National Program for Children’s Development (2021–2030).

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
