The sixth meeting of the first Council of the World Internet Conference (WIC) adopted the List of New WIC Members, seeing more members join the WIC organization.
Here is the introduction of new individual members of the WIC:
David Ferguson
David Ferguson, a British national, was born in 1956. At present, he works as the honorary chief English editor of Foreign Languages Press and the rewriting expert in the English department. He has won the Chinese Government Friendship Award, the Special Book Award of China, the inaugural Orchid Award for Outstanding Achievements and the title of "Foreign Translator for Translating China" of the Translators Association of China. With Foreign Languages Press since 2010, he has been mainly engaged in English translation, editing and writing, polishing the manuscripts of Chinese leaders, government white papers and other key foreign publicity books.
Gilbert Van Kerckhove
Gilbert Van Kerckhove, a Belgian national, was born in 1948 and is a senior electrical science and engineering expert. He has won many honors, including the Chinese Government Friendship Award, Beijing Great Wall Friendship Award and Shanghai Magnolia Award. He is a senior China consultant for Belgium’s Ministry of Foreign Trade, and provides consulting services to many government departments in Beijing. He has held important positions in Alstom, Alcatel, Siemens and other companies, with rich international work experience. He has rich professional knowledge in promoting cultural and commercial exchanges between China and the international community. He has contributed to the economic development of China and won wide recognition as a result.
Tony Quek
Tony Quek, a Singaporean national, was born in 1973. He is a member of the Academy of Engineering, Singapore (SAEng), currently Dean and Professor at the Academy of Information System Technology and Design, Singapore University of Technology and Design, IEEE Fellow, head of the National Future Communications Research & Development Programme, and head of AI project of Singapore University of Technology and Design. His research topics include wireless communication and network, 6G, network intelligence, non-terrestrial communication network and O-RAN access technology. He won the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award in 2022, IEEE Stephen O.Rice Prize in 2020, and the Asia-Pacific Region Outstanding Paper Award of IEEE Communications Society in 2017.
Zhang Hongke
Zhang Hongke, a Chinese national, was born in 1957. He is a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), currently Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Electronic Information Engineering of Beijing Jiaotong University, Director of National Engineering Research Center for Mobile Network Technologies, and IEEE Fellow. He was the chief scientist for two phases of the National 973 Program. He has been engaged in research on the theory and engineering technology of dedicated communication networks for a long time, and has made important contributions to meeting the urgent need for national and industry-specific network projects. He has been awarded two second prizes for national technological inventions, four first prizes at the provincial and ministerial levels, and published six monographs. He won the National Pioneer Innovation Awards and enjoyed the Special Government Allowance of the State Council. He was the leader of the first batch of National Huang Danian-style Faculty Team in colleges and universities.
The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
