BEIJING - China's mobile phone shipments climbed 19.7 percent year-on-year to over 29.16 million in October, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).

5G mobile phones account for the majority of the October shipments, totaling 26.44 million units, marking a 35.5 percent year-on-year expansion, said the CAICT, a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

In the first 10 months, total cellphone shipments edged up 4.2 percent year-on-year to 230 million units, the data showed.

Domestic brands continued to dominate China's mobile phone market in October, with shipments rising 7.2 percent to 18.01 million units.

A total of 50 new models hit the domestic market in October, surging 51.5 percent year-on-year, CAICT data showed.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
