The World Internet Conference (WIC) held the New Forms and Developments of E-commerce Forum in Wuzhen, East China’s Zhejiang province, on Nov 9.
Liang Hao, executive deputy secretary-general of the WIC and head of the WIC Working Group on Cross-Border E-commerce, released the Report on Developments of International Normative Systems on Cross-Border E-commerce (hereinafter referred to as “Report”), and introduced its background and main content.
He also put forward the working group’s actions and proposals to promote the development of cross-border e-commerce and to improve international normative systems on cross-border e-commerce.
Cross-border e-commerce has become a new engine behind global economic growth in the era of digital economy, he said, adding that it is having a profound impact on global trade pattern, setting urgent demand for the formulation of integrated and coordinated international rules on global cross-border e-commerce.
Noting that the WIC, as an emerging international organization in the digital field, is dedicated to building a platform for extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits of the global internet, Liang said that the working group was established to jointly carry out work related with cross-border e-commerce, promote the best practices for its development, and improve and coordinate relevant international normative systems.
The Report gives an overview of the global development trends of as well as problems and challenges faced by global cross-border e-commerce and international normative systems thereof.
It also highlights the latest measures in trade facilitation and legal and policy support for the sustainable and high-quality development of cross-border e-commerce.
The Report puts forward eight proposals, with a focus on promoting digitalized development, trade facilitation, legal and policy guarantee, and the coordinated development of international rules on cross-border e-commerce.
