Key part of the annual World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, major events have been lined up for this year's WIC, adding appeal to the internet industrial gala.
Release of tech achievements
The Release Ceremony for 2022 World Leading Internet Scientific and Technological Achievements, one of the highlights of the 2022 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit, is expected to wow an international audience with the latest internet technologies and applications.
The summit is to be held from Nov 9 to 11 in Wuzhen, East China's Zhejiang province. This year, the theme is "Toward a Shared Digital Future in a Connected World — Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace". The WIC International Organization will hold its first annual meeting during the summit, which will feature both online and offline events.
The ceremony has been held at the summit for six consecutive years. It has become an annual major event for global internet technology exchanges and mutual learning, drawing wide attention.
This year, the ceremony will focus on a great number of cutting-edge internet technologies and applications as well as innovative development of basic internet theories and technological applications.
The frontier internet technologies to be displayed at the ceremony will range from 5G and 6G networks, basic operating systems and graph processing to digital twin and artificial intelligence. So far, the annual ceremony has been well received by the world, and displayed nearly 300 outstanding sci-tech achievements from countries such as China, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Sweden.
Having gone through the selection procedure of the event's recommendation committee, which consists of 40 renowned internet experts, a total of 15 world-class scientific and technological achievements stand out from others and will be unveiled at the summit this year.
Practice cases
The Release and Presentation of Outstanding Cases of Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace is scheduled for Tuesday, offering attendees a number of working examples of promoting international exchanges and cooperation in cyberspace.
The initiative of jointly building a community with a shared future in cyberspace was put forward at the second WIC Wuzhen Summit in 2015 and its relevant principles and proposals for internet development and governance have received wide support from the international community.
Last year, the Release and Presentation of Outstanding Cases of Jointly Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace was held for the first time, showcasing a number of influential and effective cyberspace international cooperation cases, which have enjoyed positive feedback from home and abroad.
Such a release and presentation event continues to contribute ideas to jointly building a community with a shared future in cyberspace this year. Held during the summit, the event features the world's typical cases in cyberspace infrastructure, online cultural exchanges, innovative development of the digital economy, cybersecurity and international cyberspace governance, and presents examples of international exchanges and cooperation in cyberspace.
To date, more than 200 typical cases from governmental departments, internet enterprises, social organizations and technical associations, as well as sci-tech research institutes and universities, from more than 100 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania have been collected.
A professional committee composed of more than 20 experts has chosen 12 cases out of the total, which are closely aligned with the summit's theme, have great international influence and high social value, and are presented in diversified forms. These cases are displayed on-site.
Light of Internet Expo
The 2022 Light of Internet Expo, jointly organized by the World Internet Conference and the Zhejiang provincial government, opens on Tuesday. It is considered a must-see exhibition at the 2022 WIC Wuzhen Summit.
This year's event puts a focus on global internet development trends and frontier technologies. Adhering to the principles of opening-up and cooperation, the expo aims to create an important platform for international cooperation and exchanges in the digital economy.
The expo plans to showcase the honorable outcomes accomplished by the internet industry that can lead civilization, but also for the next generation and the future.
The 2022 Light of Internet Expo, held both online and offline, covers a variety of topics such as the realization of digital-driven common prosperity and the goals of peaking carbon emissions and becoming carbon neutral, industrial digitalization or the industrial internet, digital travel, digital health and cyberspace governance.
More than 270 enterprises have set up booths at the offline exhibition. A total of 280 domestic and international enterprises are displaying their latest products on the online platform, which will be accessible all year round.
The expo boasts many events to release new technologies, products, theoretical achievements and signature scenarios to the public. It also hosts a number of online job fairs and promotional meetings for talents in the digital economy in the hope of connecting talents with industries and unleashing the potential of the expo.
Global competition
The "Straight to Wuzhen" Global Internet Competition, a key component of the 2022 WIC Wuzhen Summit, is to hog the global spotlight this year, with its awards ceremony scheduled for Friday.
With a focus on digital economy, the competition aims to explore new technologies, models and business forms of internet development, create a new platform for cooperation between Chinese and overseas internet businesses in projects, technologies, human resources and investment, forge global internet cooperation and innovation, energize internet entrepreneurship, and bring together young internet talents.
It is committed to strengthening high-level interconnectivity between global internet industries and contributing to the joint governance and common prosperity of the global internet sector as well as the robust development of the digital economy.
This year, the competition consists of seven thematic contests on digital health, realization of digital-driven carbon peak and neutrality goals, artificial intelligence, the industrial internet, internet-connected vehicles, cybersecurity and digital-driven common prosperity.
There are three stages of the competition: a preliminary online competition, the semifinal and the final. Contestants across the globe are able to submit their online application during the preliminary round. The award winners of the seven thematic contests will attend the award ceremony during the summit.
The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
