At the 2025 World Internet Conference (WIC) Cultural Heritage Digitalization Forum, Zhan Changfa, former vice-president of the China Academy of Cultural Heritage, emphasized the vital role of digital technology in preserving cultural heritage. "Digitization is more than just a technical tool—it is an in-depth form of archaeological excavation and a safeguard for passing civilization to future generations," he stated.

China has made significant strides in digital conservation, from the restoration of the Dazu Thousand-Hand Avalokiteshvara and the digital preservation of the Dunhuang Mogao Caves and the Palace Museum to the groundbreaking work on the Terracotta Warriors. The restoration of Notre-Dame de Paris—completed in just five years thanks to detailed digital archiving made before the fire—exemplifies how digital technology is reshaping cultural heritage preservation across the globe.

The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
