Tesla CEO Elon Musk said recently that Tesla is working on the“final piece of the Full Self-Driving (FSD) AI puzzle,” which is vehicle control, the huanqiu.com reported on August 3.

He predicted that Tesla would achieve fully autonomous driving by the end of the year.

Media reports, however, believe that it is hard, for many Tesla owners who frequently use the FSD Beta, to imagine Tesla making the leap to Level 4 or Level 5 autonomous driving in just a few months from its current state. Besides, Tesla's fully autonomous driving still awaits approval from regulatory authorities.

“Vehicle control is the final piece of the Tesla FSD AI puzzle. That will drop >300k lines of C++ control code by ~2 orders of magnitude,” said Musk.

It sounds like Tesla plans to rely more on neural networks to control vehicles rather than direct coded instructions.

“Our progress is currently training compute constrained, not engineer constrained,” Musk further stated, adding that Tesla is training these neural networks.
